Bentley claims a curb weight of 4773 lbs for the Continental
GT V8. It has more than 500 horsepower and the built to focus that muscle into
speed with amazing ease. It has astounding leather interiors and meticulously
varnished wood in the stunningly trimmed dashboard. If you are a person who
likes simplicity and lightness, stay away.
And in spite of all that, the Continental GT V8 is pleasurable
to drive. A glance at its built quality gives us evidence as to why.
The third-generation Continental GT is built on Porsche
Panamera platform, the Bentley is a tad bit shorter and also wider. In V8
form, it uses the same as the Panamera Turbo 4.0-liter twin-turbo engine. It makes 542
horsepower along with 568 lb-ft of torque from 1960 to 4500 rpm. With a redline
at 6800 rpm, it's actually the highest-revving engine ever put in a Bentley.
This V8 is paired with an eight-speed dual-clutch
transmission and a rear-biased AWD system. Three-chamber air springs and
adaptive dampers are set, while Bentley Dynamic Ride—active anti-roll bars driven by a 48-volt
electrical system—is a $5359 option.
Good ingredients, but it's what Bentley does with them that makes
the Continental GT V8 so special.
With the previous Continental GT, the V8 was the admirer’s choice.
The W-12 model was nose-heavy; the lighter V8 is lighter and made for a
better-handling car.
That earlier-generation car was a creation of the Audi way of
life-engine and gearbox tightly crammed at the front end of the stage. The new
one moves the engine rearward, with both V-8 and W-12 models achieving a 55:45
front-rear weight share. The eight-cylinder’s decreased cooling requirement and
shorter standard-equipment add to the reduction in the weight.
