Hyundai Ioniq plug-in
hybrid is a rival for Toyota Prius and this car is available as a standard
hybrid or in plug-in hybrid form. This is rightly termed as facelift as most of
the changes are cosmetic.
The interiors are updated
and have a fresh new look to it with added features. The designer has made the
dashboard glossier and touch sensitive. The interior comes with a huge 10.3
inches touch screen infotainment and also has heating and ventilation control.
The 104 bhp engine is
combined with the all electric 59 bhp motor to give a overall 139bhp output and
very good torque of 195lb. there is a six-speed automatic gearbox with dual
clutch. 59kW lithium ion polymer battery can give about 32 miles on a full
charge.
The driving experience in
the electric mode is effective, silent and smooth but the car does not pack the
power and just does good enough with it’s 59bhp electric motor. It is fine when
you move around the city but if you are looking to open the highway, petrol
power needs to get in. the petrol engine kicks in late and does a decent job.
You might get annoyed by the noisy engine if you are used to the silent
electric motor. The sports mode adds the extra power but feels strange with
this car.
It’s a good-looking,
competent and well-resourced machine, the Ioniq Plug-in Hybrid. Plus it’s got a
very competitive in class electric range, a spacious and elegantly styled dashboard
and an infotainment system keeps up with the trend
Yet while it handles
deftly enough, the powertrain still doesn’t feel as well resolved as that used
in a Toyota Prius Plug-in; the dim-witted gearbox and obtrusive internal
combustion engine are the worst offenders here.
Though the handling is
sturdy the powertrain still does not match upto Toyota Prius. The dim gearbox
and obtrusive internal combustion here are to blame. If the Hyundai Ioniq
plug-in is made cheaper than the Toyota Prius, then the cars flaws could be
overlooked and make it a better competitor.
